Snack Time #1 Tex-Mex Night!

Another series of post? I thought you’d only stick to Random Thoughts.

Yes a new series of posts, Random Thoughts like I’ve said before, it’s a series of random things I feel like talking about without a specific theme, this one however is about food, sweets, snacks, etc.

If it’s food in general why the name Snack Time? Also how often will you make this kind of post

Because I’m not creative enough, Snack Time posts will not be as common as Random Thoughts or any other posts, I’ll only post it if I want to share my thoughts on something, and maybe a recipe, who knows? not me I can’t see the future yet.

Anyway, tonight I went to Sí Señor, a Tex-Mex chain of restaurant that’s very popular here in Brazil, it’s actually the second time I went there, besides the margarita my order was pretty similar to the previous one, so what exactly did I ordered?

Nachos Supreme

WhatsApp Image 2017-05-27 at 7.28.22 PM

Nachos covered with cheese, frijoles, pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole.

My thoughts? Best nachos I’ve had thus far, well that’s not saying much because Mexican restaurants aren’t something as common as a place that sells burgers or pizza so I don’t have much to compare it to, I’ve went to at least 2 other Mexican restaurants before and their nachos were “meh” at best.
Since I was accompanied by at least two other people, we’ve ordered two of them, since none of us ate that much during the day we handle it just fine, otherwise it would have been a bit too much for us, well at least for me I’m not sure about them.

Summer Fresh Margarita

WhatsApp Image 2017-05-27 at 7.28.47 PM

A mixed drink with Tequila, Rum and Strawberries.

My thoughts? Pretty damn good, I love strawberry flavored things, especially when it comes to drinks, I’m not really the kind of person that drinks a lot, or often, I usually drink something because I know it’ll taste sweet, so if you see me drinking something that isn’t a mixed drink I’m probably trying it for the first time.

Final Thoughts.

We’ve had a wonderful time today, we ate, we drank and we had fun, I think this was the first Tex-Mex restaurant I went to, I’m not sure how different it is from an actual Mexican restaurant because I’m pretty sure every country specific restaurant around the world have their own different spin on their traditional food, so I shall compare it to the ones I ate before this one, it’s way better than them.

Random Thoughts #2 Voice actors, my first console and the reason I don’t use Facebook as much as I did before

Recognizing Voice Actors.

Really, recognizing voice actors?

Yes, recognizing voice actors, I don’t know why but I find a bit of joy when I can compare character’s voices to later find out that they share the same voice actor. Two examples on this:

On the Adventure Time episode “Everything’s Jake” there are 3 characters that Jake meets throughout the story, Goose, The Mayor and Dr. Erik Adamkinson, that sound pretty similar to Phillip J. Fry, Zapp Brannigan and Professor Farmsworth from Futurama, that’s because they were all voice by the same person, Billy West, which I think is pretty cool considering that Bender and Jake are both voiced by John DiMaggio.

Nolan North and Steve Blum worked together innumerous times, they’ve had very iconic roles over the years and are two of my favorites voice actors, If I had to pick 2 franchises they’ve worked together and their characters in them, I’d pick Call of Duty Zombies’ Dr. Edward Richtofen and Tank Dempsey.

The first video game console I’ve ever owned.

I can’t remember what year I got it as a Christmas gift, but the console I got was a Gemini X Game, a Brazilian Famicom Clone, it looked like a Sony Discman with Sega Genesis/Mega Drive inspired controllers, a Famicom cartridge slot and strangely enough, a light gun that kinda looks like a Walther PPK, James Bond’s weapon of choice.

771711008581777

Little me was too dumb to understand that this console was a clone, but even if I did, I wouldn’t care, It was my first console, I was very excited to play it and I had a lot of fun doing so.

I can’t remember all of the games that were available on the cartridges and the system, so with the help of Google I found out some of the games I’ve played on it: Track & Field, Duck Hunt, F-1 Race, Lunar Pool, Hogan’s Alley, Contra, Jackal, Soccer, Spider-Man Return of the Sinister Six, Battle City.

The reason I’m avoiding Facebook recently.

Brazil is a country that is very divided when it comes to politics, some people lean more to the left while others lean more to the right, that’s natural people do have different opinions on different things, I will respect both sides of the coin regardless.

Talking about politics is important so you can grow up as a person and help the society you live do so as well, as long as your political view isn’t your only personality trait everything should be fine, which leads me to why I’m avoiding Facebook, political posts.

Sharing something on Facebook is kinda like a one way conversation, you just press a button to display something on your timeline and show it to other people in their News Feed, and that’s about it, unless you’re a famous person or a page you won’t get a lot of attention, apply that to politics and things will get a bit annoying.

You’re saying this because you don’t agree with their opinion…

Not really, sometimes I may agree with their point of view, my problem is the fact that Facebook doesn’t have a filter to simply block the kinds of post you don’t want to see on your News Feed , I’d rather just see what my friends are up to instead of blocking every page that posts political content because of something my friends shared.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to “throw shit” on my friends because of their point of view, you can post whatever you want on your timeline, If I don’t want to see certain content is my problem not yours, Facebook could at least help it’s users to block specific subjects they would rather not see, if you’re somehow insulted because of this post I’m sorry.

Anyway that wraps things up for today, I’ve made a possible thumbnail for future Random Thoughts, it’s probably not the final version though.

Random Thoughts #1 Animated Series and things to come.

I’ve mentioned before that this was going to be a random blog, It’s not locked in a specific content, I decided that if I want to talk about something in specific like a game, a movie or some other thing I’ll do so, but if the lack of specific content hits, the Random Thoughts series of posts will be my salvation, I’ll use it to post small thoughts about random stuff that happened in the past, present and will happen in the future.

I’ve been a bit more quiet than usual lately because I was studying something this week, studying for a choice, related to the special life event I previously mentioned, I can only confirm three things at the moment, it’ll happen in September, it’ll last approximately 9 weeks, needless to say I’m very excited about it.

Also this week I’ve done something that I haven’t really done for a long time, I opened up Netflix, I’ve watched seasons 1-7 of Archer and seasons 4-6 of Adventure Time, this is my thoughts on them:

I really enjoyed watching Archer, I haven’t been this excited about an adult animated series since Rick and Morty, and I can safely say I enjoyed it just as much as it, seasons 5 and 7 were very different to the original format, I really enjoyed the temporary changes, it was a nice touch, at the same time I’m excited for season 3 of Rick and Morty, I’m also excited for season 8 of Archer, I just it comes to Netflix soon.
If I had to pick 3 of my favorite episodes they would be: Placebo Effect, Vision Quest and both parts of Deadly Velvet.

I’m kinda upset that I couldn’t watch the first 3 seasons of Adventure Time, I really loved watching it, it’s a very charming cartoon, it’s funny, it’s charming, it has it’s sentimental moments, it has it’s action moments and I’m sure you’ve heard it all before, I can see why this was one of the cartoons that saved Cartoon Network, it’s a bit sad that the series will end in 2018, I hope to see the other seasons in Netflix soon.
My 3 favorite episodes so far are: I remember you, Be more and Jake the Brick.

I should really make a thumbnail for these kind of posts in the future, but it’s too late now, I’m tired and I wanted to post something, so here it is.

Edit: Thumbnail was made in part 2 and I’m currently using it

A “dead” game’s last breath?

Hey guys, I wanted to make this post for a while now, because it’s actually something that I have a lot of passion for, a game that I really enjoyed for a while and wish I could play it again, you can even consider it an honorable mention on the 5 game that are very  special to me,  I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this way about it, but anyway the game I’m talking about is Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game.

maxresdefault

Why do I want this game to make a comeback? There are only two, but I made sure to pack them full of info, and they are:

1. The series author wants to bring it back.

Author Bryan Lee O’ Malley, creator of Lost at the Sea, Seconds, and of course Scott Pilgrim, mentioned once in his Twitter that he would do whatever was at his power to bring the game back, but he needs time, meaning that he, along with the fans, really want this game to make a come back.

I would suggest my readers to not bother Mr. O’ Malley on the matter, the guy only created the graphical novels, not the game nor the movie, he did have a close involvement with their creation, he’s doing what he can regarding the re-release.

2. The game itself

Man, talk about a fun game, I believe besides some flash game I’ve played on the internet when I was young, this was my first arcade style side-scroller beat’em up, the game is beautiful, the sprites were inspired by the graphic novels, made by Paul Robertson, who  later on made the sprites for Mercenary Kings;
Music wise, we have to thank Anamanaguchi for the amazing soundtrack, I occasionally catch myself listening to Another Winter and Rock Club, in fact I’m currently listening Another Winter.

Going around Toronto with Scott, Ramona, Stephen and Kim (also Wallace and Knives if you bought their DLC or the Ultimate Edition) beating up some guys and gals contracted by the League of Evil Exes, only to defeat one of the 7 Evil Exes at the end of stage, each character has their own attacks and special moves, from Ramona pulling a random weapon out of her Subspace Suitcase to Kim sneezing a fireball like projectile, the game had a fun combat system, I’ve never had the experience of playing this game with an arcade stick but I can imagine how good it must be, each character has it’s unique ending to the game, giving the game some re-play value, while I unfortunately haven’t gotten a chance to play this game with 4 people, neither through online nor through guests, but I can imagine playing this with friends would be very fun.

The game was filled with references to the graphical novels, the movie, gaming and even to places in Toronto, references such as:
Being able to pay Scott’s Late Fees for $540.25, on Volume 5 of the books after defeating the twins Scott earns an achievement for defeating them simultaneously and the game contains an achievement/ trophy with this exact description.
Mario styled blocks in a Rainbow Road inspired Subspace Highway,  in-game stores with a similar looking layout to those found in River City Ransom, items named as Speedy the Porcupine, Never-ending Fantasy, Energy Tank that are references to Sonic the Hedgehog, Final Fantasy and the Mega Man energy tanks.
In level one you will find two stores, one named Delicious Cup and the other Dee’s Tex-Mex; they are a reference to Second Cup Coffee Co. and Sneaky Dee’s Tex-Mex restaurant.

Conclusion:

It is unfortunate that the game was only available through the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live’s store, It was quite a successful game among those who played it prior to it’s de-listing at the end of 2014.

Is there still hope for the game? In my opinion that is a yes, look at Deadpool, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, the Telltale Back to the Future, Bayonetta on PC and among other games,  Deadpool and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 were taken off from both online services but made a comeback on PS4, Xbox One and on PC, a place that Marvel vs. Capcom 3 hasn’t been released; the Back to the Future game has been re-released on PS4 and Xbox One to celebrate Back to the Future day and on Bayonetta’s case, I believe they re-released it because the fans demanded for it.

If I had to point a finger towards who could bring this game back from the limbo it’d be either Ubisoft or Universal, In 2013 when spoken on the topic of releasing the game on PC, one of the Mercenary King’s developer mentioned that it’d only be possible if Ubisoft were up to it, and Universal because Mr. O’Malley mentioned that the game was a movie tie-in and that neither of them made a lot of money.

Will we ever see the game again? Only time will tell us what answers await us, let’s just hope they bring this game back to current-gen consoles and for the PC.

The reasons why I decided to play on the PC

Oh so he’s one of those “PC MASTER RACE” douchebags…

No, I do play on PC but that doesn’t mean I have a superiority complex like some other members of the PC gaming community…

Alright, your opinion will be heard, what’s your reason for playing on the computer?

Well, so far I’ve only played games on a Vostro 5470, it may not be a power house, but this baby used to pack quite a punch, It ran some modern games such as Grand Theft Auto V, Dead Rising 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops III on very minimum specs compered to the actual minimum recommended, It never looked that good but it ran quite fine, for a while, after some time they couldn’t run as fine, Grand Theft Auto V for example had problems loading the map, every time you accelerated a Super car to a certain speed, the road simply disappeared followed with some frame drops.

Sadly for me I’ll still be hanging to it, so I won’t be able to play games I’ve been really looking forward to play such as Fallout 4, Doom (2016) , Resident Evil 7, NieR: Automata, Black Ops III’s DLC: Zombie Chronicles, among other games; the reason for that being that it costs a small fortune here in Brazil to built a decent gaming computer.

Ok, that’s a decent story related to your hardware, but what’s the reason you play it on a PC?

Well there are only three reasons and they are:

1. Steam

Sp2mlo

Ah Steam, you’re a the most lovable and yet most cruelest of mistresses when it comes to PC gaming,

Why is it lovely? Well Steam is a wonderful service to use, it’s simple it has all sorts of games available for purchase, a lovely interface to find new games based on your and your friend’s interests, you can interact with the community to find guides, strategies, controller configurations among other features.

Why is it cruel? 1 word dear reader: SALES, so many sales, the prices are amazingly low, it’s so good, they occur so often you just can’t help yourself and buy a game or two or a bundle with a couple of games for a very low price, if you don’t have enough self control they are quite a temptation.

 2. Controller Support

controllers.jpg

Just because you play on the computer it doesn’t mean that you’ll be stuck playing with the keyboard and mouse, there are so many alternatives , the most common controllers used is the Xbox 360 one, but you can play with so many others, you can play with a PS3 one, a PS4 one and if you’re crazy enough, you can even get things like a Guitar Hero controller, a third party retro controller such as an Atari one, hell, you can even use bananas wired to a circuit board as a controller, every mercenary has his own tool for the job, and being able to pick the one you prefer for it is always nice.

3. No subscription required to play online

The current line of console all have their own subscription based program that will allow players to play the games they own online, them being the Xbox Live, PlayStation Plus and pretty soon the Nintendo Switch Online Service, once a month you’ll be able to get a free game from them and whatever other bonus they offer, PC on the other hand ,besides subscription based games, you won’t need to pay an extra to be able to play online with your friends, which in my opinion is how it should be, I had both the Wii and the PS3 and you didn’t needed to pay extra to pay online, so my best alternative was really to move on to computer gaming.

Conclusion:

Do I hate console gaming? Absolutely not, they’ve played a huge role on my gaming experience over the years, and in fact they still play a part of it in the present, whenever I go to my friends or family’s house, we usually sit down and enjoy playing on the PS4, we have tons of fun doing so, I even own a PS4 controller, even though I don’t own a console, I use it to play games on both the computer and on the PS4 with them.

So whatever your gaming platform of choice is, game on and remember to respect your fellow gamers!

My opinion on Soccer/Football

He’s a Brazilian of course he likes soccer/football!

Actually, no, I don’t like soccer/football at all…

Still bitter about the World Cup?

I’ve never been, most other Brazilians were pretty upset about it, I laughed so much that day, I was playing Black Ops II while my family was busy watching the match at the living room, even while wearing headphones and with the door closed you could still hear the game and people screaming at the window, I remember I lost it when I heard someone yelling “BAD TEAM” of course it was in Portuguese.

Ok so when exactly did you started disliking the sport?

To be honest, I don’t have a specific date to mark on the calendar, I remember having to play it so many times over the years just to complete a team, and suck at it, while everyone else was having fun or taking it more to a competitive side, I was rather bored.
Soccer/football is something unavoidable here, everywhere you go you’ll hear people talking about last night’s game, how amazing that one player is, how superior [Insert team name here] is and how awful [Insert team name here] is, and so on.

I live on an apartment complex, so wanting it or not you’ll know when someone scores on the game, the reason being the noise, you’ll hear people screaming “GO [Insert team name here]” SUCK IT [Insert team name here]”, using air horns, vuvuzelas, cars horns and whatever they can use. While I’m not sure everywhere in the country is like this, I wouldn’t doubt it considering how big of a thing it is around here.

Video game wise, I’m not sure why FIFA and PES are still being released yearly, the only difference between them and their previous version is a bit of a graphical difference, some changes regarding to the team and occasionally a new feature, this argument can be made about any yearly released game like Call of Duty or sports games.

I’ve went to a stadium at least twice in my life, one of them was to watch a match with my cousins, and the other one was to watch a Foo Fighters concert with them,
Can you guess which one I had more fun going to?
If you guessed watching the game you clearly haven’t been reading this in the right order.
I’m not gonna lie, I’ve fun watching the game with them, not because of the actual game, but to the company I was with,  I cheered with them, it’d feel awkward being the only one not to, plus I wanted to make them happy knowing that I was having a good time with them, In the end the team they were rooting for won, hooray, at the end of the night we went to a burger joint to eat something, whether it was a celebratory thing or because we were really hungry, we may never know, or care in fact, on that day I’ve discovered that even if you’re doing something that you’d consider boring, the right company can make that experience really enjoyable.

Conclusion

Is there anything wrong with liking the soccer/football? absolutely not, you can enjoy playing it or watching a match as much as you want, if you’re having fun doing so that’s all the matters, just because we’re into different things that doesn’t mean I won’t respect you as a person.
There’s still one question that bothers me to this day, If I don’t like soccer/football as a sport or as a video game, why the hell do I enjoy Rocket League so much?

Movie night!

♪♫ Let’s all go to the lobby, let’s go all to the lobby, let’s all go to the lobby to get ourselves a treat ♫♪
Finally a use for that music anyway, Hello everyone, this post will be about my thoughts on a few of my favorite movies I’ve watched over the years.

1. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

scott_pilgrim_vs_the_world_dvd_cover

Let’s get the easy target out of the way first, I really love this movie, they did a good job adapting 6 books into a movie, yes there are many differences between the two, including the absence of some characters, adding new things to the story while replacing some previously existing ones, everything was so shortened even the course of the story was, in the books Scott took a couple of months to actually defeat the League of Evil Exes while the movie was only a few weeks the experiences are different, differences aside, both of them good in their own merit, I’m really glad I’ve watched this movie, it introduced me to this amazing series that will never be forgotten by me.

2. Her

her

I really loved watching that movie, the love between human and OS [Operating system] was a bit weird at first but after a while it felt like watching a real long-distance relationship between two people, I fell in love with Samantha, her character was built with so much love and care it’s impossible to not feel like there’s an actual person by Theodore’s side during the whole movie.
As a concept for future technology, it isn’t far off,  having a multi-platform OS with a personal assistant like Samantha is already a reality with Windows 10 and Cortana and MacOS/ IOS and Siri, while neither of them are quite as advanced as Samantha,  I can imagine Microsoft and Apple are trying to perfect them in manner it’ll be pretty similar to what we’ve seen in the movie, excluding of course the whole romantic interaction.

3. Hardcore Henry

hardcore_ver2

A video game movie done right, and it’s not even based on a game so they really nailed this one, I’ve never seen a movie that actually had a first person perspective before it never really felt out of place, the point was the mimic the gameplay of a FPS and it certainly feels like it, added with the violence and the parkour it makes the movie a very enjoyable ride if you aren’t a fan of violent movies, you should stay clear of this one, It felt like watching a over an hour long cutscene, an amazing cutscene but still…
Watching this made me want to play a violent FPS, too bad my laptop can’t run Doom (2016).

Conclusion

Looking back at those movies they really have a few things in common with one another, it’s kinda funny drawing some similarities to completely none related movies, I guess this is how people do those movie theories you see online, I highly recommend watching these movies, you may or may not enjoy these, but as the saying goes, different strokes for different folks, whatever the case is I hope you enjoy the next movie you watch and let me know if you have any recommendations for a next movie night!
